Take a tour… Our Late 70’s Suburban Colonial

We had sold our townhouse and had been living at my parents home for a few months. Our house search had been fruitless and then one day this blue house came on the market. Dana being the realtor.com stalker that he is had us in the house for a tour the next day, with an offer on it by 3:00. There were already 3 other offers! So we went highest and best and BAM it was ours. We live in a suburban little area that has houses fly off the market. It was voted the best place to raise a family in 2016 by ….. We have a lot of military as well, so houses are always getting snatched up quickly. We were ecstatic to finally have a home again… I also found out I was pregnant with our 2nd little girl around the same time. It was time to be out of my parents house for sure!

Couple things about this house that we love:

The square footage. At 2400 (not including the basement) it wasn’t too small/wasn’t too big.

The layout. One thing we discovered is the original owner made tweaks to the blueprint when it was being built. Our garage is really big. She had it pushed out instead of cutting into the right side of the house. The stairs are wider than normal. The hallway upstairs is about 6 inches wider than usual. Little details like that make a HUGE difference to an older suburban home.

The yard. Actually, the back yard was horrible. On a slope with a ton of trees and rocky, roots. It’s under major renovation as we speak. BUT it’s on a really large lot and has a massive front yard which we really love.

The bones were fantastic, the lot was large and there was perks indeed. It was a fixer upper which meant we could do what WE wanted instead of settling for someone else’s style. Here’s what we’ve done so far!
